1 in 20 million- Story 5
If you spend any time in a TYS Retail‑owned Nisa Local store, you quickly realise they care deeply about the communities they serve – with the simple, human belief that everyone deserves food on their plate.
Whether it’s through everyday shopping in their stores or through donations to the local foodbank, TYS want to make sure families in the areas they serve don’t have to worry about where their next meal is coming from.
Since 2018, TYS have donated an incredible £120,000 through Making a Difference Locally, supporting 118 different community groups – one of the widest community footprints we’ve ever seen from a retail group.
In 2024, the group celebrated Pink Friday, MADL’s community twist on Black Friday. Rather than focusing on discounts, the team focused on making sure all of their residents have access to food, turning the day into a celebration of generosity and connection. Across seven stores, colleagues, customers and local organisations came together for raffles and fundraising activities, raising £2,148 in a single day.
One of the organisations closest to their hearts is George’s Food Hub, a community interest company led by the much‑loved George – a man whose kindness has supported countless families over the years. TYS’s support for the food hub is a tribute to him, and to the community he has served with such compassion.
For TYS, community support isn’t just about raising money – it’s about standing alongside the people they serve every day. Over the years they’ve supported 118 organisations, from foodbanks and youth clubs to schools, disability groups and grassroots sports teams. Their creativity, generosity and long‑term commitment show how independent retailers can make a lasting difference where it matters most – in the lives of the people around them.
Stories like theirs show what £20 million raised through everyday shopping really represents: people coming together to ensure no one is left behind.
